All HP certification exams are based on a standard industry level of knowledge just like the HP0-S31 Managing Windows and Linux Servers Systems. Each person taking the exam should have a minimum of one year experience with Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and Red Hat Linux. They should also carry with them several years of end user experience. The exam is sixty questions long and any score below sixty-eight percent will be considered failing and the exam will have to be retaken. The exam is designed to test the competencies and knowledge in the fields of installation, configuration, upgrading OS, monitoring, tuning, optimization, troubleshooting, administrative tasks, and operations tasks. These are just the main areas to be concerned about but, one must also be knowledgeable in the sub tasks related to each topic. There are four sections on the exam and each section will account for twenty-five percent on the questions presented.
The primary references that should be used during preparation are Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Administration Instant Reference and Red Hat Certified Technician and Engineer Training Guide and Administrator's Reference. There are also secondary references that can serve as great reinforcement from the primary references and the recommended courses for this exam. Make sure that familiarity with the exam guide is gained so that all areas are covered during preparation. Practice exam will serve as a good way to find weak points in knowledge.
